Training in solar energy systems – TAFE SA

8 November 2021

TAFE SA delivers accredited training in electrical and renewable energy to prepare students for a range of careers in the sector.

Training in solar energy systems has recently been bolstered by the in-kind donation of two new single phase and two three-phase batteries from Sonnen and the SA Department for Energy and Mining.

The batteries will be installed at TAFE SA’s Tonsley and Elizabeth campuses and are expected to be ready for use in Semester 1 2022, enabling students to learn on technology that is currently in the marketplace.

The batteries, which provide an energy storage system for buildings with solar panels, cover both domestic and commercial needs.

Sonnen, a market leader in smart solar energy storage, manufactures the batteries at the former Holden factory in Adelaide and several staff have participated in TAFE SA’s training.

TAFE SA offers short courses in solar grid design, installation, and battery storage systems. The training is also available to Certificate III Electrotechnology (Electrician) apprentices as an elective.

Among those choosing to take the elective is electrical apprentice Robbie Correll who works for Class A Energy Solutions. Robbie, who was recently named Murraylands Apprentice of the Year, spends his days installing solar energy systems and says he enjoys being part of the renewables industry and working across South Australia.
