First TAFE SA International graduate to complete hospitality degree – TAFE SA

Kasuni Fernando is the first graduate from TAFE SA International’s new Bachelor of Tourism, Hospitality and Events Management (CRS1400588).

Kasuni now works at the Wilpena Pound Resort in the Flinders Ranges – though her career path wasn’t always straight forward.

“I studied accounting and finance – but I realised this wasn’t my passion,” she says. “I’ve always loved to travel, to interact with different cultures and people from all walks of life. My parents had a restaurant in Sri Lanka, so I’ve been surrounded by food and hospitality from a young age.”

“After realising that I didn’t want to be working in commerce, and that I was more of a practical learner, I decided to pursue the TAFE SA bachelor – which was the perfect combination of all the things that I loved.”

How did she find her studies? “I have no words to explain how helpful my coordinators and lecturers were. They became my role models, encouraging me to gain work experience, facilitating internship opportunities, providing insight into the industry, and assisting with anything I needed.”

Kasuni says she is recommending TAFE SA to her family and friends. “My cousin will be starting his studies there in October.”
