TAFE RESPONDING TO COVID-19 – INTERNATIONAL
WE ARE IN THIS TOGETHER
International students at Australian TAFEs have had their study and work interrupted by COVID-19. While TAFEs have adjusted class arrangements so study can continue, many students have lost jobs that helped them with living expenses.
TAFEs have taken a number of steps to help these students – financial support; helping with job searches; food; assistance with accommodation and personal support such as buddying with TAFE staff, regular check-ins and counselling.
International Student Welfare
Janelle Chapman is the lead for all international business activities for TAFE Queensland, the largest VET provider in Queensland. With more than 30 years of experience in VET, Janelle is a strong advocate for the TAFE sector. She is also the Vice President of the International Education Association of Australia which represents all providers for international students. In this video Janelle highlights some of the great work that is being done in Queensland to support international students.
Food drives to help international students started with a great idea from a TAFE staff member and then spread. People are generously sharing with those in need.
Holmesglen Institute has initiated a range of support measures for their international onshore students facing hardship due to the COVID19 crisis.
Despite all the difficulties people are facing, it has been incredible to see international students, businesses and Territorians band together to help those in need
