Sam Jacob

Board Member, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Students and VET), Charles Darwin University

Sam Jacob brings more than 30 years’ experience in post-secondary education in the UK and Australia, including senior roles at Think Colleges and Torrens University (part of Laureate International), Deakin University, Monash University, the University of South Australia and the University of Adelaide.

Sam is currently the Pro Vice-Chancellor: Students and VET at Charles Darwin University, leading staff across 8 campuses responsible for VET strategy and growth and student engagement and success. Sam has strengths in conceptualising the future needs of organisations, driving change, implementing innovative and responsive customer strategies, growing and diversifying revenue streams and improving quality.

At Laureate, Sam managed key VET brands in the market (William Blue, CATC, ACNT, ANCB), responsible for the success of Laureate’s private RTO, Think Colleges. Sam oversaw rapid growth in the highly competitive VET market in Australia, and successfully led the organisation through campus and online expansions and ASQA accreditation cycles. Now at CDU, Sam has joined a young, innovative dual-sector University focused on making a difference to the remarkable central desert region and tropical top end of Australia and its national and international neighbours. Sam is driving a transformational change program to improve student outcomes, particularly for students in equity groups.

Sam holds postgraduate qualifications in management, mediation and arbitration and is (occasionally) contemplating a PhD. Sam is a Fellow of the Association for Tertiary Education Management (ATEMF), and currently mentors other Darwin-based professionals in the Northern Territory government’s Women and Leadership program. Sam has served on several community Boards, including as Deputy Chair of Melbourne’s Midsumma Festival and Chair of Adelaide’s Feast Festival, as well as currently volunteering with the Northern Territory AIDS and Hepatitis Council (NTAHC) and the Pinnacle Foundation.
