TVET partnerships in Latin America

March – May 2021

Funded by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s Council of Australia and Latin American Relations (COALAR) the project connects TAFEs with VET and industry organisations in Peru, Chile and Brazil to develop working relationships over the longer term.  William Angliss Institute, SuniTAFE and TAFE Queensland partnered with TDA supported by Australian embassies and Austrade posts in-country in these virtual events.

Peru

The seminars for Peru were held in March, 2021 in partnership the Association of Agricultural Producers Guild of Peru (AGAP), the citrus fruit grower association ProCitrus and SuniTAFE.

The first webinar covered the skilling issues in horticulture in Australia and Peru and looked at how automation is transforming these industries. The second webinar looked for areas of collaboration in course design and teacher professional development.

Chile

Connections into Chile will take place early May 2021 in partnership with Fundacion Chile and the public and private providers associations, CFTECH and Vertebral, in conjunction with the Australian Ambassador in Chile and a representative of the Chilean Ministry of Education. As the country is experiencing a fierce second wave of COVID learning in Chile will predominantly online. The webinars will share the challenges and opportunities arising from the new modes of learning required during periods of social distancing.

The webinars will be delivered in partnership with TAFE Queensland.

Brazil

With the support of the Australian Embassy in Brasilia, TDA is working with two partners in Brazil – the State Government of Bahia in relation to the tourism and hospitality sector and the National Rural Learning Service (SENAR) for the agriculture sector.

William Angliss Institute led the collaboration with the State Government of Bahia with representatives of the State Secretariat of Education, tourism and hospitality industry representatives and training providers. William Angliss representatives presented the role of occupational standards to address challenges faced by the sector. The second webinar focused on the use of competency standards to connect industry, government and education and training providers.

Agriculturally focused webinars with the National Rural Learning Service (SENAR) are scheduled for mid-May 2021 and will discuss the role of technical and vocational education and training in supporting the transformation of the agriculture sector. Experts from TAFE Queensland and SuniTAFE will share their experiences on the following topics:

Webinar 1: Challenges and opportunities for the TVET sector in an online environment: sharing experiences between Australia and Brazil

The webinar will allow to explore the challenges and opportunities brought by the COVID-19 pandemic for vocational education providers in Australia and Brazil and discuss ways to address the challenges of digital learning in agriculturally focused courses.

Webinar 2: Delivering technical and vocational education and training that will support the transformation of the horticulture sector in Brazil

The webinar will focus on how to develop relevant training products to respond to changes in the sector and the role of trainers in providing quality training.
